Celebrate America’s 248th Birthday in LaPorte County!

Strike up the band! Light up the sky! It’s time to celebrate America’s 248th year! There’s no better place to mark everyone’s favorite summer holiday than in the heart of the U.S. – the Michigan City/LaPorte area of Northwest Indiana. Huge parades, spectacular fireworks, and more celebrations are on tap. 

Don’t forget that celebrating the 4th of July holiday in LaPorte County comes with everything visitors love about the region all summer long, especially lots of beach time and outdoor activity. Lake Michigan stretches in a supreme vista of blue water and sandy beaches in Michigan City. The community of LaPorte is home to popular clear-water inland lakes. Unique lodgings in both areas invite you to linger longer.

LaPorte Events

Red, Wine & Brew (June 28-30): Enjoy beer and wine tasting, barbecue, and live music from Nashville stars at The Summit. Proceeds support local first responders. The event concludes with fireworks and drone shows.

Fireworks (July 3): A free fireworks show over Clear Lake, starting at dusk. A patriotic concert by the La Porte City Band begins at 7pm at the Dennis F. Smith Amphitheater.

Parade (July 4, 10 AM): One of Indiana’s largest parades, featuring Governor Eric Holcomb, extravagant floats, bands, and more. The parade stretches two-and-a-half miles along Lincolnway in Downtown LaPorte.

Run for Riley (July 4, 8:30 AM): A 5K Run/Walk also on Lincolnway, supporting Riley Hospital for Children. Sign up HERE.

Michigan City Events

Patriotic Parade (June 29, 11 AM): A beloved tradition since 1957, this parade features bands, floats, and vintage cars along Franklin Street.

Fireworks (July 4, 8:30 PM): Watch fireworks over Lake Michigan from Washington Park. Arrive early to enjoy the sunset.

Red, White & Brews (July 6, 2-11:59pm): Shoreline Brewery hosts the 19th Annual Red, White, and Brews and will feature spectacular fireworks and live performances from 3 incredible bands

Enjoy beach time

Washington Park Beach: Swim, visit the Washington Park Zoo, enjoy the Splash Pad, and explore the iconic East Light and Old Lighthouse Museum.

Pine Lake & Stone Lake: Perfect for swimming, water sports, and fishing. Stone Lake features a beach with amenities, and Pine Lake offers waterskiing and boat rentals.
